Robbie teaches trumpet at Semitone. His musical journey began in brass banding. As a young cornet player he won the National Youth Brass Band Championships' soloists prize, going on to perform as a soloist at the French Open Brass Band Championships and play with some of the UK's greatest brass bands.
At 16, he won a scholarship to Chethams’ School of Music where he studied with principal trumpet of the Hallé Orchestra, Gareth Small, and went on to be awarded the Orchestral Brass Prize. In 2019 he gained the John Fewkes Scholarship to enrol at the Royal Northern College of Music where he spent 4 years under the tutorship of John Miller, Murray Greig and Tom Osborne.
Whilst at the RNCM, Robbie formed Phoenix Brass with whom he reached the semi-final of the International Philip Jones Brass Ensemble Competition, performed live on BBC Radio 3 and successfully completed the Hallé Professional Experience Scheme. He graduated in 2023 with a first-class honours degree.
Aside from classical trumpet, Robbie has been a part of several acclaimed musicals, including the revival of The Wiz in 2021 and the European Premiere of Rogers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella in 2022 at the Hope Mill Theatre. Additionally, he has a keen interest in music production - having released his debut EP ‘Visions’ in April 2023 - and has many exciting plans to produce more music in the near future.
