Mal began his ventures as guitarist with the Mud Hutters in the late 1970s and has played in a multitude of bands through the decades including performances with Andy Diagram from Manchester band James, and American songwriter Dan Reed. His solo exploits are a recent venture and have included two appearances on Made in Liverpool TV. His song Mountain song was used as the main theme in a short film Love is dead, which became a prize winner at the Prague Film Festival.

'Mal's unique music is underlined with an acerbic and sometimes sarcastic wit.' ( Andy Diagram/ "James").

'Mal weaves everyday stories into song. And there's his song about a man who wins the lottery then gets struck by lightening. You just can't write this. Actually he can.' (Neil Duffin/Producer )
